NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Freed-Hardeman's Maria Bagwell has been named the TranSouth Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending Sunday, Feb. 17.
Bagwell, a 5-7 senior forward from Nashville, Tenn., scored 23 points and grabbed eight rebounds in the No. 1 Lions win at No. 17 Bethel (Tenn.) University. Bagwell averaged 15.5 points and 8.5 rebounds on the week. In the 67-50 win at Bethel, Bagwell shot 10-of-13 from the field and hit all three free throws. For the week she shot 61 percent (14-23) from the field. In FHU's 93-35 win over Mid-Continent she nearly had a triple double scoring eight points, grabbing nine rebounds, and securing eight steals. In both games she dished out a pair of assists.
It is the first award this year for Bagwell and the fourth for FHU. Natalie Shumpert has taken the award the other three times, including last week.
The Lady Lions clinched the TranSouth Conference regular season championship with their wins this week. FHU is 26-1 overall and 7-0 in conference.
