Box Score HENDERSON, Tenn. - The Freed-Hardeman volleyball team looks to even its season record tonight as the Lady Lions visit Benedictine-Springfield (Ill.) for a 7:00 PM conference contest.
SETTING THE STAGE
The Lady Lions (6-7, 1-2) look to even both their overall record and conference records after coming off a well-played four-set win over Martin Methodist (Tenn.) on Tuesday. The Bulldogs (0-12, 0-3) are still searching for their first win.
LAST TIME THEY MET
FHU had little problem in dispatching of Benedictine-Springfield in three sets (25-12, 25-22, 25-12) on Oct. 25, 2013. The Lady Lions got eight kills apiece from Allie Moss and Amanda Cunningham and five each from Daymari Brito and Kara England.
WHAT TO WATCH
- Freshman Kiyla Glasper was her first chance as part of the regular rotation on Tuesday and made the most of it with 11 kills and a solo block. The 5-foot-10 freshman is one of the team's best athletes and has the ability to make things happen. She could have another solid outing tonight.
- Although the Bulldogs are winless, they are among the national leaders in blocks averaging 2.4 per set. The Lady Lion hitters will need to be aware of the block on their attacks and find the open spots on the floor.
- Amanda Cunningham is coming off a career-high six solo blocks on Tuesday. FHU needs to get that sort of consistent effort from Cunningham and fellow blockers Mikaela Powers and Alex Britt in order to take some pressure off the back row.
- Opponents are averaging 7.5 aces per match against the Bulldogs. That is an area that FHU could exploit as the Lady Lions rank among the national leaders in aces per set.
BY THE NUMBERS
- After a 28-kill performance on Tuesday, Allie Moss now ranks 10th in the NAIA in kills per set (4.26). She also is eighth in career kills at FHU with 803.
- Michelle Bennett and Amanda Cunningham both moved into the top 10 on FHU's career statistical leader list, Bennett in digs with 605 (ninth all-time) and Cunningham in blocks with 122 (ninth all-time).
