Box Score HENDERSON, Tenn. - The Freed-Hardeman Lions travel to Alabama to face a fairly familiar opponent in Talladega (Ala.) College tonight at 7:00 PM.
SETTING THE STAGE
Tonight will be the official season-opener for Freed-Hardeman, as Saturday's game against College of Faith (Ark.) was considered an exhibition since College of Faith is a non-accredited school. Talladega (3-0) is off to a hot start and is ranked No. 5 in the NAIA.
LAST TIME THEY MET
FHU used a late 16-3 run to pull away from the Tornadoes on its way to a 71-64 win in the second round of the NAIA National Tournament on March 21, 2014. Orlando Bass led FHU with 19 points while Kyle Teichmann had 18 points and 12 rebounds in the Lions' 29th win of the season.
NEWS, NOTES AND NUMBERS
- Seniors Shondel Stewart and Brandon Peters have been on fire for the Tornadoes in their first three games. Both 6-foot-2 guards, Stewart is averaging 32.0 points per game and scored a season-high 37 in the team's opener against Birmingham Southern (Ala.) while Peters averages 26.0 points per game. The two account for 68 percent of the team's points scored so far this year.
- FHU knocked down 13 3-pointers in Saturday's exhibition win over College of Faith. Senior Ben Meis made five while freshman Trevor Randolph drained for as the two combined to go 9-for-15 from behind the arc. Talladega is known to play a lot of zone defense, so the Lions need to continue to get open looks and convert from the perimeter.
- Senior transfer Cameron Lewis had 22 points for FHU on Saturday. A third-team NAIA All-American last season at Fisk (Tenn.) University, he has the ability to break down defenses off the dribble.
- FHU leads the all-time series, 4-2. This will be the fourth meeting between the two schools in the last three seasons. Talladega swept a home-and-home series in 2012-13, 76-72 in Henderson and 64-60 in Talladega.
