Box Score HENDERSON, Tenn. - Conference play begins early this year in the American Midwest, as the Freed-Hardeman Lions head to St. Louis to open up against Harris-Stowe State (Mo.) on Thursday.

The Lions (3-0) take their undefeated record into St. Louis to face a Harris-Stowe State (0-3) team looking for its first win. FHU is coming off an 81-66 road win over Cumberland (Tenn.) as Cameron Lewis led the way with 24 points.
LAST TIME THEY MET
FHU scored a season-high 120 points and cruised to a 120-91 win over HSSU in the quarterfinals of the American Midwest tournament, despite the Hornets' having an early 20-13 lead. Damion Wooten led FHU with 26 points while Reginald Gilmore had 19 and Orlando Bass had 18.
NEWS, NOTES AND NUMBERS
- FHU senior Vincent Dotson is coming off back-to-back double-double performances, posting 12 points and 11 rebounds against Crowley's Ridge (Ark.) followed by 12 points and 13 rebounds against Cumberland (Tenn.) University. He doesn't shoot much, but when he does he takes high-percentage shots as evidenced by his 81.3 percent shooting from the field.
- Transfers Cameron Lewis and Evan Forhetz have led the team offensively, averaging 19.0 and 17.0 points per game respectively. Lewis is coming off a season-high 24 points in Monday's win over Cumberland. Forhetz also averages 8.3 assists per game, which is tops in the NAIA.
- The Hornets have been plagued by turnovers and rebounding in the early season. They average nearly 20 turnovers a game with a -13.0 ratio and are getting out-rebounded by an average of 17 per game.
- Trevor Roberts leads HSSU in scoring at 14.3 points per game, the only player on the team averaging in double figures.
- The Lions currently rank fourth in the NAIA in field goal percentage, shooting 52.4 percent from the field. Last year, FHU was third in the nation in shooting.
