Box Score HENDERSON, Tenn. - The Freed-Hardeman Lions ran wild and scored often in a double-header sweep of Oakwood (Ala.) College on Monday at Carnes Field.
FHU (24-9) swiped a total of 14 bases in as many attempts on the day and hammered the Ambassadors, 16-2 and 20-0.
In game one, the Lions scored in every inning but the fifth and plated 16 runs on 13 hits as 18 different players got plate appearances.
Kyle Dearing and Robert Prieto both stole second and third base in the first inning as FHU scored three times. The Lions added two in the second and four in the third, highlighted by freshman Jordan Woelfle's first career home run.
Garrett Ferguson's three-run shot (3) capped off a four-run fourth inning, and the Lions finished the game with three runs in the sixth.
Freed-Hardeman stole nine bases in the opener and saw eight of its 13 hits go for extra bases. Ryan Smith (1-2) picked up the win, allowing one run on three hits over five innings while striking out 11.
A 10-run fourth inning highlighted game two and seven Lion pitchers combined to toss a one-hitter and retired 19 straight batters after a lead-off single and a hit batsman in the first.
Bobby Seda hit his fourth home run of the year in the second inning, a two-run shot that gave the Lions a 3-0 lead. That lead quickly grew from there as FHU scored two more in the second following Seda's home run and four in the third, leading into the huge fourth inning.
The FHU pitching staff combined for 11 strikeouts with Jackson Lockhart (1-0) striking out the side in the fifth to be credited with the win. All seven of the Lion pitchers threw one inning.
Freed-Hardeman returns to action on Tuesday hosting Mid-Continent (Ky.) at 5:00 PM in the final game of a split conference series. FHU won the first two games at Mid-Continent on March 18, 16-6 and 12-3.
