Box Score HENDERSON, Tenn. - The No. 10 Freed-Hardeman Lions look at stay perfect in conference play as they travel to face Williams Baptist (Ark.) College on Tuesday at 7:30 PM.
SETTING THE STAGE
Freed-Hardeman (12-1, 8-0) has rolled in the new year with a pair of comfortable victories over conference opponents. Williams Baptist (6-5, 5-2) lost a battle of second-place teams on Saturday against Lyon (Ark.) College, snapping a four-game winning streak.
LAST TIME THEY MET
A 13-0 run that started with three minutes to play gave Williams Baptist an 84-80 upset win over No. 7 Freed-Hardeman on Feb. 27, 2014. Debrell McLemore scored a career-high 17 points in the loss.
INSIDE THE SERIES
The two teams split the regular-season series last year as FHU won at WBC, 93-77. The Lions lead the all-time series, 22-6, and had won six straight games in the series before the Eagles upset FHU at home in the last meeting.
WELCOME BACK
The Lions will welcome two players back to the lineup tonight in senior Debrell McLemore and junior Isaiah Harrison. McLemore, a 5-foot-10 guard, gives FHU another option at the point while Harrison, a 6-foot-8 forward, gives FHU a larger presence inside the paint.
RHYMES WITH THREES
Senior guard Ben Meis has continued his hot shooting and has scored 20 or more points in six of his last eight games to up his average to 14.1 points per game. Over that stretch, he has made 35-of-80 from 3-point range and has made six or more 3's five times and is averaging 17.4 points per game.
DROPPING DIMES
Junior guard Evan Forhetz still leads the NAIA in assists averaging 7.5 per game. He dished out a career-high 13 assists on Jan. 1 against Benedictine-Springfield (Ill.) He also sports one of the best assist-to-turnover ratios in the nation, ranking 16th at 3.06 with only 32 turnovers this season - an impressive figure for a point guard.
DIALING LONG DISTANCE
Although FHU has historically done a lot of its scoring inside, this year the Lions are doing it from 3-point range. FHU ranks sixth in the nation in 3-pointers made per game (9.2) and 16th in 3-point shooting percentage (39.0). The team's top four scorers have all made at least 22 3-pointers. The Lions have been particularly hot as of late, averaging 11.8 3's per game over their last four.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
Williams Baptist lost a battle for second place in conference on Saturday as Lyon (Ark.) closed the game on a 12-3 run to post a 66-58 victory. Like FHU, the Eagles rely heavily on three players to do most of the scoring - James McClain (18.9 ppg), Tevin Howard (15.5 ppg) and Abel Yekeh (13.3 ppg). Howard is a dangerous 3-point shooter, ranking second in the NAIA in 3's per game while shooting 44.2 percent. The 6-foot-4 McClain is a slasher who is a great finisher at the basket. The Eagles don't have a deep bench, typically using only seven players most of the time.
