HENDERSON, Tenn. - The Lady Lion volleyball team will look to pick up a much needed road win tonight as they travel to Batesville, Ark. to take on Lyon College in a 7:00 PM match up.
SETTING THE STAGE
The Lady Lions (13-9, 3-3) are coming into tonight's match off a loss to Bethel (Tenn.) College (8-2, 17-7) in straight sets on Tuesday in McKenzie, Tenn. The Lady Lions struggled on the offensive end in the first two sets as Bethel defeated FHU 3-0 for the second time this season (25-12, 25-19, 26-24).
The Wildcats were led in scoring by Eloisa Sales, who had a double-double in the match with 11 kills and 13 digs. Daisy Liljenquist also paced the attack for Bethel with 11 kills on 16 attempts. Jessyca Watson dished out 18 assists
Allie Moss paced the attack for the Lady Lions with 11 kills on 18 attempts while hitting 50 percent in the match. Sara Denton dished out 12 assists while Michelle Bennett countered the Wildcat attack with 10 digs. The Lady Lions hit 27 percent in the match.
Lyon College (14-13, 4-4) is coming into tonight's match off hard fought win over Philander Smith (Ark.) College on Wednesday night (21-25,25-21,25-18,22-25,15-10). Lyon setter Emily Sprick and Middle Blocker Katarina Frickleton each posted career-highs with 49 assists and 21 kills, respectively in the match.
Although Lyon is even in regard to their wins and losses this season, they are coming into tonight's match with a lot of momentum as they have won eight of their last nine matches.
LAST TIME THEY MET
FHU hosted Lyon last season on October 11 and were able to pick up a solid win in straight sets over the Scots (25-19, 25-23, 25-22) to post their eighth win of the season.
Allie Moss led the attack for the Lady Lions with 17 kills as FHU put together a strong performance in the 3-0 victory over the Scots. Lyon had a total of 38 errors in the match, including 14 service errors. Seven of those service errors came in the third set.
In addition to Moss's 17 kills in the match, Kiyla Glasper added nine. Michelle Bennett led the back row with 10 digs while Emily Humphry had 17 assists.
The Lady Lions will look to have a similar result this season as they attempt to pick up their 14th win of the season in the 7:00 PM road match at Lyon College.
