Lady Lions down St. Louis College of Pharmacy in straight sets

HENDERSON, Tenn. - What a difference a day can make. After being defeated in straight sets on Friday, the Lady Lion volleyball team was able to bounce back on Saturday as they defeated St. Louis College of Pharmacy in straight sets (25-15, 25-21, 25-19).

FHU (15-12, 4-6 AMC) alternated possessions with St. Louis College of Pharmacy (3-18, 3-8 AMC) to begin the first set until the score was evened up at seven apiece. Emily Humphry would take over at the service line and rattle off seven straight serves that resulted in six errors by the Eutectics defense. Kiyla Glasper and Amanda Cunningham combined for three kills in the rally, which extended the Lady Lions lead to 14-7. The deficit would be too much for St. Louis College of Pharmacy as the Lady Lions would continue to add to their lead as they took the first set 25-15.

The Lady Lions began the second set with a kill by Allie Moss and they would never look back as they kept the lead the entire set, although the Eutectics would make a late push to even things up at 21 apiece late in the set. However, the Lady Lions would rattle off four straight points, including two timely kills by Kiyla Glasper to take the second set 25-21. Allie Moss and Kiyla Glasper combined for 10 kills in the set with Moss contributing seven and Glasper contributing three.

FHU came out firing in the third set with four different players contributing on the offensive attack, accounting for 16 of the Lady Lions 25 points in the set. Allie Moss paced the attack for the Lady Lions with five kills in the set while Daymari Brito contributed four of her own. Kara England also had four kills while Alex Britt contributed three. Although the Eutectics would make a late push, the Lady Lions were able to hold off their offensive attack and comfortably take the third set 25-19 to give the Lady Lions their fifteenth win of the season.

Allie Moss led the attack for the Lady Lions in the match with 16 kills. Kara England followed close behind as she played one of her best matches of the season contributing 10 kills on 23 attempts. Emily Humphry dished out 22 assists and countered the Eutectic attack with 11 digs. Sara Denton added 15 assists and Michelle Bennett had 11 digs.

Kate Toler led the attack for St. Louis College of Pharmacy with 9 kills while Maddy Mensing had 15 assists. Alyssa Hitpas led the Eutectics on the defensive end with 15 digs.

FHU out-hit St. Louis College of Pharmacy 47-31 in the match as the Lady Lions hit an impressive .117 percent.

With the win, the Lady Lions move to 15-12 on the season and 4-6 in conference play.

NEXT UP: After playing three matches this week, the Lady Lions will have a few days off as their next match will not be until Friday, November 6 as they face Stephens (Mo.) College for Senior Night in a 6:00 PM match up at the Brewer Sports Center.
