HENDERSON, Tenn. - The Lady Lion volleyball team will begin conference tournament play tonight as they travel to St. Louis, Mo. to take on No. 1 Missouri Baptist University in a 7:00 PM match up.
SETTING THE STAGE
The Lady Lions ( 16-13, 5-7 AMC) are coming into Tuesday's match off a loss in straight sets to No. 3 Columbia (Mo.) College on Saturday afternoon (25-9, 25-13, 25-16).
The Cougars (24-7, 11-1 AMC) out-hit FHU 46-19 in the match on their way to a victory in straight sets (25-9, 25-13, 25-16). Columbia was led in total offense by Penny Liu, who had 15 kills on 20 attempts to go along with two service aces in the match. Liu also led the Cougars on the defensive end with 9 digs. Setter Sashiko Heredia dished out an impressive 27 assists and had three blocks.
Allie Moss and Kiyla Glasper led FHU's attack with 5 kills each. Setter Sara Denton had seven assists in the match while Michelle Bennett contributed on the defensive end with six digs. The Lady Lions hit just -.013 percent for the match, which is one of their lowest hitting percentages of the season. FHU committed 20 attack errors in the match compared to the nine attack errors for the Cougars.
Missouri Baptist (32-3, 12-0 AMC) is coming into Tuesday's match up off a solid 3-1 win over Hannibal LaGrange (Mo.) University on Tuesday, November 3.
Taylor Cook led the Spartans with 11 kills and four service aces as well as seven digs on the night followed by Hannah Carey with 10 kills. Ally Crus notched 30 assists and averaged 10 assists per set. Haley Pouliezos posted 16 total digs in the match and averaged 5.33 digs per set.
The Lady Lions will have their work cut out for them as they host No. 1 Missouri Baptist in the first round of the AMC Tournament tonight at 7:00 PM.
WHO TO WATCH
Senior Allie Moss has led the attack for the Lady Lions in nearly every match of the season in 2015. She has compiled a total of 382 kills on the season. Her season-high 24 kills came at the Faulkner Invitational in the win against Faulkner (Ala.) University, Moss has continued to put up impressive numbers on the attack and leads FHU in kills, averaging 3.71 kills per set. The Lady Lions will look to Moss tonight to pace the attack in the tough match up in the first round of the conference tournament.
