By Matt Barker, Sports Information Director

HENDERSON, Tenn. - The Freed-Hardeman Lady Lions volleyball team will have a busy weekend in Milligan, Tenn. as they open their 2015 season at the Milligan Mountain Madness.

FHU will play four matches over the weekend, two on Friday and two on Saturday. On Friday, the Lady Lions will face Reinhardt (Ga.) College at 3:00 PM followed by Shawnee State (Ohio) University at 5:00 PM.

The Eagles of Reinhardt University have one match under their belt, a straight-set loss to Life (Ga.) University on the road. They are coming off an 18-13 season and return 11 players from the 2014 season.

The second match of the day will be against an experienced Shawnee State University team, whose 12-player roster is made up of eight upperclassmen including six juniors and two seniors. The Bears went 16-17 in 2014 and were led by Senor Paige Zelich and Sophomore Lauren Helbig, both second-team All-Midsouth Conference selections last season.

On Saturday, the Lady Lions will face Pikeville (Ky.) at 12:00 PM before wrapping up the tournament against host Milligan (Tenn.) at 2:00 PM.

Pikeville will play its first set of games at the tournament this weekend and will face Reinhardt College on Friday at 4:00 PM and Purdue-Calumet (Ind.) at 6:00 PM before facing off against Freed-Hardeman on Saturday 12:00 PM.

The series will also be the first set of games for tournament host Milligan College as they will face Purdue Calumet at 3:00 PM and Shawnee State University at 7:00 PM on Friday. On Saturday, they will face the University of Pikeville at 10:00 AM before facing Freed-Hardeman with a 2:00 PM game to wrap up the tournament.

The Lady Lions will look to start their offense with senior outside hitter Allie Moss, a three-time all-conference selection who led the team in kills last season with 332 and averaged 4.15 kills per set. Returning libero Michelle Bennett will also be needed to bring a consistent attack in the service game. Bennett led the team in service aces in 2014 with 41 and had an 87.2 service percentage throughout the season. Front-row players Kara England, Amanda Cunningham and MIkaela Powers will also be needed for a balanced attack.
