HENDERSON, Tenn. - The Lady Lion volleyball team will open up their conference schedule on the road tonight as they face Harris Stowe State (Mo.) University at 6:00 PM at the Emerson Performance Center in St. Louis, Mo.
SETTING THE STAGE
The Lady Lions (6-4) are coming off a loss to non-conference opponent Bethel (Tenn) University (8-6) in straight sets on Tuesday night. Kiyla Glasper led FHU's attack with 12 kills in the loss. Michelle Bennett had 6 digs while Sara Denton set 14 assists. The Lady Lions hit just .023 percent for the match.
Harris Stowe will open up their season tonight at home in their first match of the season against FHU.
The Lady Lions will look to bounce back after Tuesday's loss and will rely on solid play from its senior leadership including Allie Moss, Amanda Cunningham, Michelle Bennett, and Emily Humphry.
LAST TIME THEY MET
Freed-Hardeman hosted Harris Stowe last season on September 18 and defeated the Hornets comfortably in straight sets (25-11, 25-9, and 25-9). Allie Moss led the attack for the Lady Lions in the win with 18 kills on 23 attempts. FHU was also efficient at the net, hitting .469 for the match and only committing seven attack errors at the net.
The Lady Lions will look to have similar results this season as they face Harris Stowe on the road and try to bounce back from their loss to Bethel earlier in the week.
WHO TO WATCH
Senior Allie Moss has led the attack for the Lady Lions in nearly every match of the season in 2015. She has exceeded 14 or more kills in six of the 10 matches FHU has played this season. She has compiled a total of 152 kills and has an attack percentage of 34 percent. Her season-high 24 kills came at the Faulkner Invitational in the win against Faulkner (Ala.) University, Moss has continued to put up impressive numbers on the attack and leads FHU in kills, averaging 3.80 kills per set. On the defensive end, the Lady Lions will look to Senior Michelle Bennett, who ranks 29th in the NAIA in digs per game (5.080).The Lady Lions will look to Moss and the leadership of its senior core to open up their conference schedule with a win.
