St. Louis, Mo. - The Freed-Hardeman volleyball team opened up their conference schedule Friday and picked up an impressive win on the road as they defeated Harris Stowe State (Mo.) University in straight sets (25-14, 25-5, 25-10).
The The Lady Lions dominated on the offensive end, accumulating 44 service aces in the match. Sara Denton led the way for the Lady Lions with 14 service aces followed by Allie Moss with eight and Cynthia Beene with seven. Alex Britt led FHU in kills with four.
FHU (7-4, 1-0) came into Friday's game looking to respond to a loss on Tuesday in straight sets to Bethel (Tenn.) University and respond is what they did. The Lady Lions did not allow Harris Stowe to get within 10 points throughout the entire match.
In addition to total offense, FHU also came up big on the defensive end, accumulating six blocks in the match, led by Amanda Cunningham with two.
Todd Humphry, Head Coach for the Lady Lions, said that his team was anxious to open up conference play on a positive note.
"Our team was focused tonight," he said. "We really wanted to come out and get a good start to our conference schedule. I really feel like we can build on this win."
The Lady Lions move to 7-4 on the season and 1-0 in conference play with the win.
UP NEXT: The Lady Lions will not get much of a break after tonight's win as they will face No. 3 ranked Missouri Baptist University on Saturday at 1:00 PM.
