HENDERSON, Tenn. - The Freed-Hardeman Lady Lion soccer team will be in action tonight against Brewton-Parker (Ga.) College to open up the first game of the 2015 Lion's Cup.
The Lady Lions have had a hot start to the 2015 season so far, winning a pair of games this past week to open up the season with a 2-1 win against Point (Ga.) University at home on Thursday and a 1-0 victory on the road against St. Catharine (Ky.) College on Saturday.
During the first two games of the season, the Lady Lions have received solid contribution from several returning players including Sydney Dubiel who scored a goal in the opening game against Point University and had three shots on goal.
The Lady Lions have also received quality minutes from Freshman Nina Carolissen, who has put up stellar numbers so far this season. Of the three goals scored by FHU this season, Carolissen has scored two of them. Along with her ability to score, she has also had success pushing the ball up the field, attempting four shots on goal in the opening match of the season against Point and scoring the only goal of the match against St. Catharine College on Saturday.
On the defensive side, several players have provided key minutes for the Lady Lions including Kennedi Van Ravestein and Christiana Aponte, who have not allowed too many touches inside the box and only given up one goal throughout the first two matches of the season.
FHU Keeper Lauren Cherry has also had a great start to the season, only allowing one goal throughout the first two games and had seven saves in the opening game against Point University and four saves on the road at St. Catharine College.
Brewton Parker is coming off a 2-1 home win against Trinity on Monday, where the Barons were led by Caitlyn Bassett and Jordyn Reagan who both scored one goal a piece in the victory.
Prior to Monday's match, the Barons have struggled to score, putting zero points on the board their first two games of the season in a 3-0 loss to Truett-McConnell (Ga.) and a 4-0 loss to College and Columbia (S.C.).
The Lady Lions look to continue their hot streak and extend their record to 3-0 on the season in the opening round of the Lion's Cup tonight at 5:00 PM.

Lady Lion Player to Watch
Freshman Nina Carolissen was voted the American Midwest Conference Offensive Player of the Week for women's soccer this past week as a result of her strong play throughout the first two games of the season. Carolissen has shown that she can be aggressive in pushing the ball forward and getting open looks. During the season opener against Point University she scored one of the two goals for the Lady Lions and attempted seven shots on goal. She scored the only goal in the Lady Lions win on Saturday on the road at St. Catharine College and attempted four shots on goal. Her foot work and ability to get touches inside the box makes her a big scoring option for the Lady Lions.
