MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Freed-Hardeman Lady Lion volleyball team split a pair of matches during the first round of the Faulkner Invitational Friday evening, falling to Southeastern (Fla.) College in five sets and beating Truett-McConnell (Ga.) in four sets.

FHU took two early set wins in the opening match of the day against Southeastern University before dropping the next two, extending the match to a fifth set. where the Lady Lions would come up short with an 11-15 set loss. (25-21, 25-14, 17-25, 24-26, 11-15)

Allie Moss and Kiyla Glasper both paced the attack for the Lady Lions with 18 kills. Emily Humphry led the team in assists with 25 while Sara Denton added 23 in the loss.

FHU would have a little easier time in the second match of the day against Truett-McConnell College, defeating the Bears in four sets. Although the Lady Lions dropped the first set of the match, they were able to respond and win the next three sets to even up their record in the first day of the invitational.(21-25, 25-22, 25-21, 25-18.)

Kiyla Glasper would pace the attack for the Lady Lions in the second match with 20 kills. Daymari Brito and Allie Moss also contributed with seven kills a piece. Emily Humphry added 21 assists followed by Sara Denton with 20.

Todd Humphry, Head Coach for the Lady Lions, said that he was pleased overall with the way the Lady Lions played in the first day of the tournament.

"I felt like we let one get away in the first match of the day," he said. "I am proud; however, of the way we fought back in the second match to defeat a hard-working Truett-McConnell team."

FHU wraps up play at the Faulkner Invitational on Saturday and will take on Dillard (La.) College at 1:00 PM followed by tournament-host Faulkner (Ala.) at 5:00 PM.

NOTES: Of the six matches that FHU has played in so far this season, four of the games have been extended to a fifth set. The Lady Lions went to a fifth set in three of the four matches they played in at the Milligan Mountain Madness tournament last week.

FHU's all-time record at the Faulkner Invitational is 19-13, counting today's matches.
