KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Freed-Hardeman Lady Lion basketball team remained among the top teams in the country this week as they came in at No. 12 in the latest NAIA Coaches Poll, as released Tuesday by the national office.
FHU (19-6, 15-4 AMC) received a total of 156 points to place them just outside the top ten in the most recent poll. For a third straight week, our Lady of the Lake (Texas) (22-2) took home the No. 1 spot with eight first-place votes. Westmont (Calif.) (22-3) stayed put at No. 2 in this week's poll while American Midwest Conference member Columbia (Mo.) College improved two spots to No 3. after receiving two first-place votes.
Lyon (Ark.) College (22-3) dropped two spots from No. 6 to No. 8 following their loss Saturday to Williams Baptist (Ark.) College.
NEWS AND NOTES
Our Lady of the Lake (Texas) claimed eight-of-ten first-place votes and 249 total points. The Saints are one of the hottest teams in Division I Women's Basketball, entering Tuesday with a division-best 22-game winning streak. Our Lady of the Lake has not lost since falling to then-No. 7 Oklahoma City, 87-85, on Nov. 15.
Four teams have held the No. 1 ranking this season – No. 3 Campbellsville (Ky.) (Oct. 27, Jan. 19, Jan. 26), Our Lady of the Lake (Feb. 2, Feb. 8, Feb. 16), No. 9 Vanguard (Calif.) (Dec. 8) and No. 2 Westmont (Calif.) (Jan. 5, Jan. 12).
No. 3 Columbia (Mo.) received the remaining two first-place votes and a total of 235 points. The Cougars have moved into the top three for the first time in school history this season after conference wins against Stephens (Mo.), 95-49, and Missouri Baptist 90-55, last week.
There are no newcomers to the Top 25 this week.
Sixteen teams have been ranked in every poll this season.
The Frontier Conference – No. 12 Lewis-Clark State (Idaho), No. 13 Carroll (Mont.), No. 17 Montana State-Northern and No. 24 Great Falls (Mont.) – and the Mid-South Conference – No. 3 Campbellsville (Ky.), No. 9 Shawnee State (Ohio), No. 21 Pikeville (Ky.) and No. 22 Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) – lead all leagues with four teams represented each.
No. 12 Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) and No. 18 Oklahoma City have been listed in all 200 polls dating back to the start of the 1999-2000 season. No. 6 Vanguard is next in line with 167-straight mentions.
