Box Score

Matt Barker, Sports Information Director

HENDERSON, Tenn. - Seven was especially lucky Saturday night for the Freed-Hardeman Lady Lion soccer team, as they extended their winning streak to seven games while picking up their seventh shutout of the season in a 4-0 victory over Harris-Stowe State University at the Josh Riley Soccer Complex.

"Our team is fun to watch because you know they are going to give you everything they have and play together," said Jason Elliott, head coach for the FHU Soccer programs. "During this seven game winning streak they have really grown together as a unit and embraced the team-first attitude. They are a good group who listens and plays unselfish on the field."

The Lady Lions (9-4, 7-1 AMC) put plenty of pressure on the Hornet defense, as they attempted 32 shots and 14 shots on goal compared to Harris-Stowe State University (5-7, 3-4 AMC) who attempted just five shots and three shots on goal in the match.

Samantha Clymer once again led the Lady Lions on the attack, as she combined for two goals and one assist in the match-up while attempting five shots on goal. Sydney Dubiel and Lauren Rogers also found the back of the net in the match-up to round out the scoring for the Lady Lions.

Avis Van Kampen also found success on the offensive front, as she contributed two assists to keep the Hornet defense on their heels the entire night. Erin Douglas was solid in goal all night for the Lady Lions, as she saved all three of the shots she faced to secure her seventh shutout of the season.

Clymer got the scoring drive started for the Lady Lions in the seventh minute following a foul by the Hornets inside the box that resulted in a penalty kick. Clymer made good on the penalty kick to put FHU up 1-0 early.

The Lady Lions; however, would not be satisfied with just one goal in the first half, as they fired in two more goals, courtesy of goals by Sydney Dubiel (30th minute) and Lauren Rogers (36th minute). Clymer dished out the assist to Dubiel while Nele Kirsch sent in an incredible cross to Rogers for the assist in the 36th minute to put FHU up 3-0 entering the break.

Clymer continued her dominance in the second half, as she found the back of the net for a second time in the 62nd minute off an assist by Van Kampen to give the Lady Lions all the cushion they needed to secure the 4-0 shutout.

With the win, the Lady Lions improve to 9-4 on the season and 7-1 in conference play. Harris-Stowe State University falls to 5-7 on the season and 3-4 in AMC play with the loss.

"Today's match was another great game where they worked extremely hard for a good result," said Elliott. "Our defense shut down Harris-Stowe going forward and we really kept the ball and moved it around nicely. They play the game the right way and it is really fun to be a part of."
