FHU Volleyball Drops Heartbreaker to Lyon On Senior Day

HENDERSON, Tenn. - The Freed-Hardeman Lady Lion volleyball team had their four game winning streak snapped Saturday afternoon, as they dropped a heartbreaker to Lyon College in five sets. (25-22, 23-25, 25-20, 20-25, 15-17)

Prior to Saturday's match, the senior members of the Lady Lion volleyball team, Alex Britt, Sara Denton and Lindsey Gordon, were honored for their contributions to the team.

"I cannot put into words what this group of seniors have meant to the Lady Lion volleyball program," said Todd Humphry, head coach for the Lady Lions. "Their individual leadership for the team has been a tremendous blessing to everyone. I wish them well in the future with grad school and continued growth as young ladies."

Despite the loss, the Lady Lions (8-11, 4-5 AMC) held their own in each of the five sets, as each frame went down to the wire against a tough conference opponent. Several players contributed solid minutes for FHU including Freshman Claire Walker, who led FHU on the attack with 16 kills. Bojana Antunovic followed close behind and ended the day with 13 kills of her own.

Katie Collier and Alex Britt also reached double digits on the attack, as Collier ended the day with 11 kills while Britt pounded 10 of her own. Lindsey Gordon continued her strong play and dished out 45 of FHU's 54 assists. Reilly Fulton countered the Scots attack well and ended the day with 27 defensive digs in the loss.

Kendra Kelley led Lyon College (15-13, 5-3 AMC) on the attack with 20 kills while Chelzie Ulu followed close behind with 16 kills of her own. Jordan Dabdub dished out 48 of Lyon's 54 assists in the win. Despite FHU's forceful attack, the Scots countered it with solid defense, led by Madisson Williams, who compiled 56 defensive digs in the match.

Both teams were even on the offensive attack, as the Scots compiled 63 kills and hit ..178 in the match compared to the Lady Lions who hit .169 in the match with 59 kills.

With the loss, the Lady Lions fall to 8-11 on the season and 4-5 in conference play. Lyon College improves to 15-13 on the season and 5-3 in AMC play with the win.

UP NEXT: The Lady Lions conclude the regular season on the road, beginning next Saturday, October 28th when they make the trip to Williams Baptist College. Match time is slated for 12:00 PM in Walnut Ridge, Ark.
