HENDERSON, Tenn. - The Freed-Hardeman Lady Lion volleyball team extended their winning streak to four games Friday night, as they took down Central Baptist College in straight sets at the Brewer Sports Center (25-17, 25-20, 25-15).
"It was great to get our fourth win in a row," said Todd Humphry, head coach for the Lady Lion Volleyball team. "We are really playing well right now. This is a big week for us in conference play with another chance for a win tomorrow against Lyon College."
Friday's match also served as a "Pink Out" match to raise support and awareness for those affected by Breast Cancer.
"There was a great crowd that came out tonight for our Pink Out match," said Humphry. "It was a great environment to play in and I am happy we were able to come away with a big win."
The Lady Lions (8-10, 4-4 AMC) out-hit Central Baptist College (8-15, 1-6 AMC) 40-25 in the match, as FHU hit .184 compared to the Mustangs who hit just .034 in the match.
Freshman Claire Walker paced the Lady Lion attack and compiled 10 kills while Alex Britt and Bojana Antunovic followed close behind, each with nine kills in the win. Lindsey Gordon distributed the ball nicely and dished out 33 assists while Reilly Fulton countered the CBC attack well with an impressive 25 defensive digs.
The Lady Lions also picked up much needed points on the service line, as they compiled six service aces, led by Reilly Fulton, who ended the day with two of FHU's six aces in the win.
Sarah Clemmons led Central Baptist on the attack with 10 kills while Hope Johnson dished out 20 assists in the loss. Despite the loss, the Mustangs made the Lady Lions work, as Lenee Gibson led the Mustangs on the defensive end with 15 digs.
With the win, the Lady Lions move to 8-10 on the season and even up their conference record at 4-4. Central Baptist falls to 8-15 on the season and 1-6 in AMC play with the loss.
UP NEXT: The Lady Lions continue their weekend home-stand Saturday, as they host Lyon (Ark.) College. Match time is slated for 1:00 PM at the Brewer Sports Center. Saturday's match will also serve as Senior Day, where the Lady Lions will honor the three senior members of the team: Alex Britt, Sara Denton and Lindsey Gordon.
