MCKENZIE, Tenn. - Four players reached double digits Saturday afternoon, as the Freed-Hardeman Lady Lion basketball team made quick work of No. 11 Bethel University on their way to a 74-47 victory on the road in McKenzie, Tenn.
Kim Mallory and Sandrea Sylman led the way for the Lady Lions (2-0), as each contributed 19 points in the victory. Mallory nearly reached a double-double in the match-up, as she pounded the glass and pulled down nine rebounds.
Gabrielle Nicholson and Morgan Warren followed close behind and rounded out the scoring for the Lady Lions, as Nicholson contributed 11 points while Warren chipped in 10. Tiffany Pate held things down on the defensive front, as she pulled down seven rebounds and blocked three shots in the win.
Shamon Pearson led the way for the Wildcats (2-1) and was the only player to reach double digits, as she put up 10 points for the Bethel offense. Laurhen Pickett reached double digits on the glass with 10 rebounds while Madison Steppee contributed nine points and seven rebounds in the loss.
The Wildcats kept things close to start the game, as they held a 4-3 advantage with 7:48 remaining in the first quarter. However, from there the Lady Lions exploded with a 13-0 run over the next four minutes to take a 16-4 lead with four minutes remaining in first stanza.
The Wildcats; however, would not let things get out of hand, as they responded with a 7-2 run of their own to pull within seven points at the 18-11 mark to end the first quarter. Sandrea Sylman and Morgan Warren led the Lady Lions in the first quarter, as they combined for 12 of FHU's 18 points in the frame.
The second quarter would be much of the same for the Lady Lions, as they held a double digit lead and out-shot the Wildcats 22-11 to hold a convincing 40-22 lead entering the break.
The Lady Lions continued to pile it on in the second half, as they reached their largest lead of the game at the 69-34 mark with 6:29 remaining in regulation on their way to a convincing 74-47 victory.
With the win, the Lady Lions move to 2-0 on the season. Bethel University falls to 2-1 on the season with the loss.
UP NEXT: The Freed-Hardeman basketball teams are back in action Saturday, November 11th, as they host Cumberland University for Homecoming. The Lady Lions kick things off first at 1:00 PM followed by the men's game at 3:00 PM at the Brewer Sports Center.
