BELLEVLLE, Ill. - The Freed-Hardeman Lady Lion volleyball team battled the entire way, but came up just short Saturday, as they ended the regular season with a 3-2 loss on the road at Lindenwood University-Belleville. (28-30, 26-24, 24-26, 21-25, 14-16)
Despite the loss, the Lady Lions (10-12, 6-6 AMC) held their own in each of the five sets, as each frame went down to the wire against a tough conference opponent. Several players contributed solid minutes for FHU including Bojana Antunovic, who led FHU on the attack with 18 kills. Claire Walker and Alex Britt followed close behind, as Walker contributed 15 kills while Britt ended the day with 13 kills of her own.
Lindsey Gordon continued her strong play and dished out 54 of FHU's 57 assists. Despite the loss, Reilly Fulton countered the Lynx attack well and ended the day with 24 defensive digs.
Kayla Bailey and Erin Ladeairous led Lindenwood-Belleville (16-20, 7-5 AMC), each with 13 kills. Lauren English and Diana Shamroski also reached double digits on the attack for the Lynx, as English pounded 11 kills while Shamroski contributed 10 kills. Kourtney Knox dished out 48 assists for the Lynx while Emily Schaller countered the tough FHU attack with 26 defensive digs.
Both teams were fairly even on the offensive attack, as the Lynx compiled 58 kills and hit .203 in the match compared to the Lady Lions who hit .149 in the match with 64 kills.
With the loss, the Lady Lions fall to 10-12 on the season and 6-6 in conference play. Lindenwood-Belleville improves to 16-20 on the season and 7-5 in AMC play with the win.
