HANNIBAL, Mo. - The Freed-Hardeman Lion basketball team suffered their fifth loss of the season Saturday on the road at Hannibal-LaGrange University, as the Trojans handed the Lions an 84-67 loss in Hannibal, Mo.
Despite the loss, the Lions (1-5, 1-2 AMC) received solid contribution from Jahmeel Watts, who ended the night with a career-high 16 points and seven rebounds after going 5-for-10 from the field and 3-for-5 from behind the arc. Ehab Eltayeb followed close behind and chipped in 11 points and eight rebounds while Latrell Poitier rounded out the scoring for FHU with 10 points.
Five players reached double digits for Hannibal-LaGrange (3-4, 3-1 AMC), led by Tyrone Hueitt, Jr., who ended the night with 17 points. Demetrius Early followed close behind with 16 points Lincoln Elbe chipped in 14 points in the win.
The Lions shot 33 percent from the field and 23 percent from behind the arc compared to the Trojans who shot 54 percent from the field and 44 percent from three-point range in the win.
The Lions kept things close for a majority of the first half, as the Trojans held a slight edge at the 21-18 mark with 10 minutes remaining in the frame. However, from there Hannibal-LaGrange out-shot FHU 21-10 to close the half and enter the break up 42-28. Demetrius Early led the Trojans in the first half with nine points while Jahmeel Watts paced the Lions and chipped in 11 of his 16 points.
The Trojans continued to extend their lead in the second half, as they reached their largest lead of the game at the end of regulation on their way to an 84-67 victory.
With the loss, the Lions fall to 1-5 on the season and 1-2 in conference play. Hannibal-LaGrange improves to 3-4 on the season and 3-1 in AMC play with the win.
UP NEXT: The Lions are back in action Tuesday, December 5th, as they make the trip to Cleveland, Tenn. to take on NCAA Division 2 Lee University. Game time is slated for 7:00 PM.
