Lions Come Up Short In 88-72 Loss To Harris-Stowe

HENDERSON, Tenn. - The Freed-Hardeman Lion basketball team held their own in the first half Thursday evening, but struggled to hold off Harris-Stowe State University in the second half, as they suffered an 88-72 loss at the Brewer Sports Center.

Despite the loss, Marcus Baldwin led all scorers in the game with 20 points and six rebounds, including a 9-for-13 shooting performance from the field. Three other players reached double figures for the Lions, as Kortland Martin put up 15 points while Simon Fransis and Ehab Eltayeb, each chipped in 11 points in the loss.

The Lions (6-14, 3-9 AMC) shot 54 percent from the field and 40 percent from behind the arc compared to Harris-Stowe State University (12-7, 9-3 AMC), who shot 40 percent from the field and 33 percent from behind the arc. The Lions struggled from the charity stripe throughout the game, as they shot just 46 percent from the free throw line on 14-for-30 shooting.

Four players reached double figures for the Hornets, led by Denzel Smith who ended the night with 18 points. Deandre Clark followed close behind with 16 points and four assists while K'Ja Johnson chipped in 13 points. Dwane Miner rounded out the scoring for the Hornets with 10 points in the win.

With the loss, the Lions fall to 6-14 on the season and 3-9 in conference play. Harris-Stowe State University moves to 12-7 on the season and 9-3 in AMC play with the win.
