HENDERSON, Tenn. - The Freed-Hardeman Lion Basketball team opened the 2018-19 season Thursday night at home and suffered a 101-85 loss to Blue Mountain College at the Brewer Sports Center.
Despite the loss, the Lions (0-1) received solid contribution from Junior transfer Bryan Mitchell who ended the night with 27 points to lead all scorers in the game. Mitchell shot an impressive 11-for-18 from the field and 4-for-9 from behind the arc in the loss. James Davis followed close behind with 20 points on a 2-for-7 shooting night from behind the arc.
Three other players reached double digits for the Lions, as John Musselwhite fired in 13 points while Silas Clark and Juwan Hampton chipped in 11 points each in the loss.
Tyree Beason led Blue Mountain (1-0) on the offensive end with 26 points after shooting an impressive 7-for-11 from behind the field. Jonah Simpson followed close behind with 18 points while Lukas Durasas rounded out the scoring for the Toppers with 17 points.
The Lions shot 43 percent from the field and 28 percent from behind the arc compared to Blue Mountain who shot 49 percent from the field and 19 percent from three-point range in the win. The LIons committed 17 turnovers in the loss compared to Blue Mountain who turned the ball over 15 times in the win.
With the loss, the Lions fall to 0-1 on the season. Blue Mountain improves to 1-0 on the season with the win.
UP NEXT: The Lions are back in action Thursday, November 8th, as they host Tougaloo College for a 6:00 PM match-up at the Brewer Sports Center.
