HENDERSON, Tenn. - The Freed-Hardeman Lady Lion Basketball team opened the 2018-19 season in style Thursday evening, as they picked up a 73-39 victory over Blue Mountain College at the Brewer Sports Center.

Haylee Croom led the Lady Lions on the attack with 18 points, as she shot 7-for-8 from the field and 4-for-4 from the charity stripe. Sandrea Sylman followed close behind with 16 points while Freshman Chynia Brooks also reached double digits with 14 points in the win.

Marlee Hatcher paced the Toppers (0-1), as she put up 11 points in the match-up while shooting 3-for-8 from behind the arc. Errors plagued Blue Mountain the entire night, as FHU forced an impressive 33 turnovers while committing just 15 of their own.

The Lady Lions kept a comfortable lead for a majority of the game, as they held an 11 point advantage at the 23-12 mark to end the first quarter of play. Croom dominated the opening stanza, as she chipped in 12 of her 18 points in the first quarter.

The hot shooting continued for the Lady Lions in the second stanza, as they increased their lead to 24 and entered the break up 41-17. Croom led FHU in first half scoring with 16 points while also pulling down five rebounds.

The Lady Lions continued to roll in the second half, as they reached their largest lead of the game at the 73-36 mark with just under two minutes remaining in regulation on their way to a 73-39 victory.

With the win, the Lady Lions move to 1-0 on the season. Blue Mountain College falls to 0-1 on the season with the loss.

UP NEXT: The Lady Lions are back in action Tuesday, November 6th, as they host in-state foe Bethel University for a 5:30 PM match-up at the Brewer Sports Center.
