HENDERSON, Tenn. - The Freed-Hardeman Lady Lion Basketball team continued to roll Tuesday evening, as they picked up a convincing 81-62 victory over No. 21 Bethel University at the Brewer Sports Center.
Sandrea Sylman led the charge for FHU (2-0), as she fired in 29 points on a 13-for-23 shooting night from the field. Carrie Hatchel followed close behind with 14 points of her own while Reagen Floyd posted a career-high 13 points in the win.
Freshman Chynia Brooks continued to shine in her debut with the Lady Lions, as she nearly reached a double-double in the match-up with nine points and 11 rebounds. Brooks was also dominant on the defensive side of the floor, as she snagged three steals in the win.
Bethel Senior Myah Taylor led the Wildcats (3-1) on the attack, as she put up 26 points, including an impressive 6-for-13 shooting performance from behind the arc. Morgan Martin and Millie Bryant followed close behind, as Martin fired in 13 points while Bryant chipped in 12 points respectively. Bryant also led Bethel on the glass with seven rebounds.
FHU shot an impressive 50 percent from the field and 41 percent from three point range in the match-up compared to Bethel University, who shot 34 percent from the field and 37 percent from behind the arc.
The Lady Lions started the game hot, as they jumped out to an early 6-0 lead and never relinquished the lead from that moment on. Bethel closed the gap to as many as two points on several occasions, but the Lady Lions had an answer for every comeback, as they entered the break up 47-31.
From there, the Lady Lions continued to dominate in the second half, as they reached their largest lead of the game at at the 74-52 mark with 5:49 remaining in regulation on the way to an 81-62 victory.
With the win, the Lady Lions move to 2-0 on the season Bethel University falls to 3-1 on the season with the loss.
