HENDERSON, Tenn. - The Freed-Hardeman Men's Basketball team struggled to overcome a slow start Thursday evening, as they suffered a 107-84 loss to Tougaloo College at the Brewer Sports Center.
Despite the loss, the Lions (0-2) had four players reach double figures, led by James Davis, who chipped in a career-high 29 points in the loss. John Musselwhite followed close behind with 15 points following a 3-for-7 shooting performance from behind the arc while Bryan Mitchell chipped in 12 points. Silas Clark rounded out the scoring for FHU with 10 points while Francis Agbata led the Lions on the glass with eight rebounds.
The Lions struggled to overcome a sluggish first half, as they shot just 30 percent from the field and 18 percent from behind the arc. Tougaloo College (3-0), on the other hand, had no trouble finding their rhythm in the first half, as they shot 53 percent from the field and 52 percent from behind the arc to take a comanding 63-32 lead entering the break.
Tonzell Handy led the Bulldogs on the attack, as he fired in 26 points while Derrick Ashley chipped in 19 points of his own. Kourey Davis rounded out the scoring leaders for Tougaloo with 18 points. The Bulldogs also won the battle on the glass, as they out-rebounded the Lions 46-29, led by Handy, who pulled down 11 rebounds in the win.
The Lions turned things around in the second half, as they shot an impressive 63 percent from the field and 70 percent from behind the arc, which allowed them to chip away at the lead. However, despite the impressive shooting the damage was already done, as the Lions fell 107-84.
With the loss, the Lions fall to 0-2 on the season. Tougaloo College improves to 3-0 on the season with the win.
UP NEXT: The Lions are back in action Saturday, November 10th, as they host Welch College for Homecoming. The Lady Lions get things started first at 2:00 PM followed by the men's game at 4:00 PM at the Brewer Sports Center.
