Lions Fall 80-67 To No. 21 Patriots In Cumberland Classic

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. - In his first game of the 2018-19 season, Sophomore Kortland Martin fired in 25 points Saturday at the University of Cumberlands Classic. However, despite a solid effort, the Lions fell 80-67 to tournament host University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Ky.

Martin led all scorers in the game, as he shot an impressive 9-for-13 from the field and 4-for-7 from behind the arc to keep FHU (2-10) in the game down the stretch. John Musselwhite followed close behind with 10 points of his own while Francis Agbata led FHU on the glass with nine rebounds in the loss.

The Lions struggled to stop the offensive attack of University of the Cumberlands (12-2), as the Patriots shot 48 percent from the field and 50 percent from behind the arc in the game. Four players reached double figures for the Patriots, led by Malik Colvin Seldon and Anthony Eaves, who each fired in 18 points in the win.

The Patriots held a comfortable 49-32 lead entering the break after shooting 53 percent from the field and 57 percent from behind the arc in the first half to keep them in the drivers seat in the early going.

The Lions; however, would battle back in the second half, as they out-shot the Patriots 35-31 to close the gap to 13 points at the 78-65 mark with 1:29 remaining in regulation. However, despite the late comeback, the Lions could not get any closer than 13 points, as they suffered the 80-67 loss.

With the loss, the Lions fall to 2-10 on the season. University of the Cumberlands improve to 12-2 on the season with the win.
