Lions Fall To No. 5 Campbellsville In Cumberlands Classic

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. - The Freed-Hardeman Men's Basketball team concluded their holiday road trip Sunday afternoon with a loss to No. 5 Campbellsville University in the University of Cumberlands Classic in Williamsburg, Ky.

Despite the loss, the Lions (2-11) received solid contribution once again from Kortland Martin, who fired in 14 points, 12 of which came from behind the arc. Junior transfer Ben Eke also found success on the attack, as he fired in a season-high 10 points while Francis Agbata nearly reached a double-double in the match-up with eight points and 10 rebounds in the loss.

The Lions struggled overcome some early shooting woes on the offensive front, as they shot just 26 percent from the field and 17 percent from behind the arc in the match-up. Campbellsville (14-1) on the other hand, found their rhythm early and pulled away, as they shot 51 percent from the field and 40 percent from behind the arc.

Four players reached double figures for Campbellsville, led by Andrew Smith and Stephaun Adams, who each fired in 19 points. Smith also led the Tigers on the glass, as he pulled down seven rebounds in the win. Joan Duran followed close behind with 14 points of his own while Tyler Hagen rounded out the Tiger attack with 12 points.

Campbellsville jumped out to an early lead in the match-up and led by as many as 29 points in the first half, led by Stephaun Adams, who fired in 11 points in the opening stanza. The Tigers shot an impressive 62 percent from the field in the first half to take a 50-23 lead entering the break.

The momentum continued for the Tigers in the second half, as they reached their largest lead of the game at the 90-52 mark to notch their 14th win of the season.

With the loss, the Lions fall to 2-11 on the season. Campbellsville University improves to 14-1 on the season with the win.
