FULTON, Mo. - The Freed-Hardeman Lion basketball team saw their three-game winning streak come to an end Saturday afternoon, as they were handed a 79-74 loss on the road at William Woods University in Fulton, Mo.

Despite the loss, Kortland Martin found success on the attack for the Lions, as he finished the day with 23 points after going 6-for-11 from behind the arc. James Davis followed close behind and recorded a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds while Jalen Thompson rounded out the scoring for the Lions with nine points.

The Lions (9-15, 6-10 AMC) shot 40 percent from the field and 38 percent from behind the arc compared to William Woods (12-12, 9-7 AMC) who shot 46 percent from the field and just 12 from behind the arc.

DaShaun Stark led the Owls on the offensive end with 29 points and 10 rebounds. Darrien Dickey followed close behind with and recorded a double-double of his own with 18 points and 12 rebounds while Brandon Vice rounded out the scoring for William Woods with 15 points.

The Owls started the game hot, as they rattled off the first four points of the game, courtesy of a basket by DaShaun Stark and a pair of free throws by Darrien Dickey. However, despite trailing early, the Lions did not let things get out of hand, as they responded with a 5-0 run of their own following a pair of free throws by Ehab Eltayeb and a triple by Jalen Thompson. From there, the Lions kept things tight and prevented the Owls from reaching a double digit lead the remainder of the half, as they entered the break down just six points at the 37-31 mark.

The second half; however, was a different story, as the Owls added to their lead to make a comeback unlikely for the Lions. After the Lions closed the gap to three points at the 51-48 mark with 11:52 remaining, the Owls responded with a 12-2 run over the next seven minutes to take a 63-50 lead with 4:56 remaining in regulation. From there, the Lions were only able to pull within five points the remainder of the way, as William Woods secured the 79-74 victory.

With the loss, the Lions fall to 9-15 on the season and 6-10 in conference play. William Woods moves to 12-12 on the season and 9-7 in AMC play with the win.

UP NEXT: The Lions are back in action Thursday, February 8th, as they make the trip to Lyon (Ark.) College for a 7:30 PM match-up in Batesville, Ark.
