FHU Tennis Starts Strong On The Road At Blue Mountain

BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. - The Freed-Hardeman tennis teams hit the road Friday to take on Blue Mountain College and with it came a 5-4 win for the Lady Lions and a 6-3 loss for the Lions in Blue Mountain, Miss.

In the Lady Lions win against Blue Mountain on Saturday, FHU went up 2-1, with doubles wins from the teams of Selinde Tatum and Emily Whitnell, and Emaleigh Board and Sidney Smith.

Blue Mountain then took three of the next four singles matches, with Selinde Tatum scoring a singles win to keep the contest close at 3-4. Both of the remaining singles matches would be required for the Lady Lions to score a win.

Sidney Smith battled back from being down a set, and behind 2-5 in the second set, to win the second set in a tiebreak and the deciding super-tiebreak to win her singles match, leveling the contest to 4-4. The dual would be decided by Emily Whitnell, who had also split sets with her opponent, and then found a way to win her super-tiebreak, putting the Lady Lions ahead 5-4 for the win.

The Lions started out with s strong win from the doubles team of Emmanuel Quintana and Grant Goodman. Blue Mountain took the remaining 2 closely fought doubles matches to take a 2-1 lead early in the contest. FHU's top two players Vuk Vuchovich and Emmanuel Quintana won their singles matches, and several other matches were very close, but the Lions could score no more than 3 in their 3-6 loss.
