HENDERSON – The Lions (3-16, 1-10 AMC) were almost able to snag the comeback win, but the Hornets from Harris-Stowe State (9-7, 5-6 AMC) were able to hang on to win 78-74 on Saturday afternoon.
Harris-Stowe got out to an early 12-0 lead, and even led by as many as 17 in the opening half, but Freed-Hardeman was able to cut it to five at the break.
With the lead at four with just over a minute gone in the second half, the Hornets went on a 9-0 run to go up 13 early in the period.
The contest would stay stagnant with Harris-Stowe maintaining a comfortable 10 to 12-point lead before the Lions were able to cut it to four with just 47 second remaining.
The Hornets were able to knock down their free throws late to hold on to the four-point victory.
Kortland Martin led the way for the Lions with 26 points on 8-for-14 shooting, 6-for-10 from behind the 3-point arc.
John Musselwhite finished with 13 points and eight rebounds, followed by Silas Clark with 11 points and Jalen Thompson with 10.
The Lions will play one more home game on Tuesday against Lyon College at 7:30 p.m. before going on an extended road trip.
