HENDERSON – The Lions basketball team (3-17, 1-11 AMC) led for the majority of the second half on Tuesday against Lyon (12-7, 7-5 AMC), but came up short 67-65.
Despite the Scots outshooting the Lions 44 percent to 37 percent, the home squad was able to take a one-point lead heading into the break thanks to four 3-pointers compared to just one from the visitors.
Freed-Hardeman came out swinging in the second half, going up by as many as 12, mostly behind Kortland Martin, who finished the contest with a game-high 22 points, going 4-for-7 from deep.
The team as a whole shot a solid 50 percent from the field in the final 20 minutes, but unfortunately for them, Lyon knocked down 53 percent of their shots, as well as going 25-for-33 from the charity stripe, compared to just 5-of-8 for the Lions.
Jalen Thompson and John Musselwhite each followed Martin with 16 points. Musselwhite added nine rebounds to his tally.
The Lions head back on the road for six straight games. The next contest is at Hannibal-LaGrange on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
