Top-ranked Lady Lions stay unbeaten on road

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. – The No. 1 Lady Lions (15-0, 8-0 AMC) overcame a slow start in the first quarter to knock off American Midwest Conference opponent Williams Baptist (8-5, 4-4 AMC) 75-52 on Tuesday.

In the first period, Freed-Hardeman trailed by as many as eight points, but were able to fight their way back to cut the lead to just one heading into the second quarter.

The Lady Lions were able to turn things around in the second quarter, outscoring the Lady Eagles 23-7 in the period, taking a 38-23 lead into halftime.

Williams Baptist wouldn't get inside 15 points for the remainder of the game.

The nation's top-ranked team kept its foot on the gas in the second half, shooting 41 percent from the field and cruising to victory.

Starters Sandrea Sylman and Carrie Hatchel scored 19 and 16 points in the game, respectively, followed by Jamie Crum, who added 15 points off the bench, marking a career high.

Haylee Croom dominated the glass, pulling down 10 rebounds.

The Lady Lions will be back home on Thursday when they take on AMC foe Park University at 5:30 p.m.
