Lions blow past Redhawks in rematch

HENDERSON, Tenn. – The Freed-Hardeman University men's basketball team (2-2) defeated Martin Methodist (5-2) 90-62 on Saturday after an offensive onslaught in the second half by the Lions.

Both teams got off to a slow start, but Martin Methodist would gain an early advantage with an 18-11 lead. The Lions would put together a 15-0 run to take the lead 26-18 and would not look back. The Lions went into the half leading 45-35, shooting 50 percent from the field, and 50 percent from behind the arc.

In the second half, the Redhawks would cut the lead to two before the Lions would regroup and keep their foot on the gas for the remainder of the game. The Lions lead would stretch the lead to 28 off of a superb performance by Konstantin Dotsenko, who finished with a career-high 29 points and eight rebounds.

Kortland Martin had 24 points on the night, and Bryan Battle would notch his third double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. John Musselwhite also added 12 points and nine rebounds in the win.

The Lions will be back in action on Tuesday at the Brewer Sports Center against NCAA DII opponent Christian Brothers. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
