BELLEVILLE, Ill. – The Lady Lions (22-10, 8-2AMC) went to Lindenwood University-Belleville (11-15, 4-6 AMC) and will come home with a win after taking down the Lynx in four sets. (26-24, 19-25, 25-17, 27-25).
It was a hard-fought match from the start, with the first set needing extra points to get the win. The Lynx led for nearly the entire set, only surrendering that lead when the Lady Lions made it 21-20. It would then go back and forth until the Lady Lions were finally able to be the first team to get ahead by two.
The Lynx were able to take the second set, and the visitors cruised to a third-set win before heading to the fourth. Unlike the first set, the fourth was back and forth from the start before the Lynx led by as many as six points. The Lady Lions battled back, though, and took the set into extra points and won 27-25.
Kacey Donegan continued her strong freshman campaign with her 16th double-double of the season, recording 15 kills and digs. Claire Walker had a team-high 18 kills, and Shea Dean finished with 13.
Defensively, Reilly Fulton had another strong game, finishing with 17 digs. Emma Campbell had her second straight game with 10. Emma Self finished the contest with 46 assists, her second straight game with at least 40 assists and her ninth of the season.
The Lady Lions will be back home next weekend to close out the regular season. They will take on Park University on Friday at 7 p.m., followed by the final game of the regular season against William Woods on Homecoming at 11 a.m. The team will honor their seniors (MacKenzie Wiley and Jaycie Campbell) for senior day.
