FULTON, Mo. – It was a tale of two halves for the visiting Lions (3-20, 1-14 AMC) as they fell 84-73 to William Woods (13-7, 11-4 AMC) on Thursday night.
The two teams were trading blows in the first half, as neither team could really break away from the other.
Both teams shot well in the opening 20 minutes, with the Owls outshooting the visitors 51 percent to 45 percent.
But the Lions got the last word in to close the period as Kortland Martin scored two of his 16 first-half points as time expired to give the Lions a 38-37 lead heading into the break.
The second half was all Owls, though, as the home squad fired on all cylinders to put Freed away.
Martin led all scorers with 31 points on 12 of 22 shooting, seven of 12 from behind the 3-point arc.
Francis Agbata scored the first eight points for the Lions. He would finish with 10 before fouling out with around seven minutes left in the contest.
The Lions will head to Columbia to take on the Cougars on Saturday at 3 p.m.
