Lions come up short in Batesville

Box Score

Taylor Hodges, Sports Information Director

BATESVILLE, Ark. – After taking a five-point lead into halftime and shooting 63 percent from behind the arc in the opening 20 minutes, the Lions basketball team (5-21, 3-15 AMC) fell short 62-50 against Lyon College (15-10, 9-8 AMC) on Saturday afternoon.

It was all Freed-Hardeman from the start, and the Lions knocked down seven of their 11 attempts from behind the 3-point line in the first half, leading the entire first half, even going up by as many as 12 points in the period.

But as strong as the first half was, the Scots came back just as strong in the second half, outscoring the visitors 35-18 in the final 20 minutes of action, holding the Lions to just 23 percent from the field, compared to 47 percent in the first half.

This loss kept the Lions from extending their win streak to three games before returning home on Tuesday.

Eight Lions were able to get on the score sheet, but Silas Clark was the only one to get in double digits with 11 points. Jalen Thompson came up one point short with nine, and Francis Agbata and John Musselwhite each pulled down a team-high nine rebounds.

The Lions return home on Tuesday against William Woods after six straight road games. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

The AMC will be taking up donations for the #AMCHoopsForRedCross at the door on Tuesday. If you are unable to attend the game, but still want to make a donation, please visit http://www.amcsportsonline.com/article/3076.php.
