The Lady Lions volleyball team (1-0) defeated Crowley's Ridge College (1-2) in straight sets in its season opener on Monday night in front of a large crowd inside the Brewer Sports Center.
The Lady Lions had an impressive and balanced attack all around to pick up the victory. The Lady Lions were led by Junior Claire Walker who had 16 kills, followed by Kacey Donegan, who put together an impressive Freshman debut for the Lady Lions with 13 total kills.
Junior Emma Self was outstanding for the Lady Lions with 30 assists, along with Reilly Fulton who had 21 digs on the defensive end.
The Lady Lions set the tone from the jump, winning the first set 25-14, and they picked up right where they left off in the second set, winning that one 25-14 as well.
In the third set, the Pioneers would respond and get out to a 10-2 lead early on. The Lady Lions would maintain their composure and go on a 23-8 run to win the set 25-18 and complete the sweep.
The Lady Lions will be back in action on Tuesday night at 7 at the Brewer Sports Center against Fisk University.
