Lady Lions hang on to beat rival Bethel

HENDERSON, Tenn. – The Freed-Hardeman University volleyball team (7-5) defeated rival and future Mid-South opponent Bethel University (4-8) on Thursday in five sets.

The Lady Lions opened the game winning the first two sets 25-18 and 25-22 before Bethel would respond and win the next two sets 25-15 and 25-18 to force a decisive fifth set. The Lady Lions showed resilience and regrouped after struggling the prior two sets to take the fifth set 15-9 and win the match.

Claire Walker starred in the win for the Lady Lions with 21 kills, along with Kacey Donegan who added 17 kills and 15 digs on the night. Emma Self put forth a double-double effort for the Lady Lions with 35 assists and 15 digs. Reilly Fulton made her presence known on the defensive end with 17 digs.

Thursday's game was the lone home game for the Lady Lions this month, as the team will open up another four game road trip beginning with Blue Mountain College of September 19. That game is set for 7 p.m.
