Henderson, Tenn. – The Freed-Hardeman University volleyball team (4-0) defeated Crowley's Ridge College (2-3) in straight sets (25-13, 25-12, 25-15) on Friday night in the home finale of the fall semester.
To open the first set, the Pioneers would get out to a 7-3 lead before the Lady Lions would regroup and put together a 6-1 run to gain control of the set. From when the Lady Lions took their first lead at 9-8, the team would continue their run and stretch it to a 16-5 run, as the team led by as many as 10 to go up 1-0.
In the second set, the teams would go back-and-forth to start before the Lady Lions would put together a 11-1 run to make the score 14-4. The team would keep their foot on the gas pedal and use a 11-6 run to claim the set.
In the final set, the team again traded punches early, and the Pioneers would hold a one-point lead before the Lady Lions would use a 6-0 run to gain control, and they wouldn't look back. They closed out the Pioneers and earned the sweep with a 12-7 run to claim the match.
Emma Self led the offensive attack with 23 assists while also tallied her 2,000th career assist in the match.
Shea Dean had 12 kills in the win, followed by a 11-kill performance by Claire Walker and 16 assists from Allie Humphry. Defensively, Reilly Fulton and Emma Campbell both tallied 10 digs in the match.
With Friday's game being the home finale for the semester, the Lady Lions begin a eight-game road trip to close out non-conference play. The team will be back in action on October 13th, as they travel to Crowley's Ridge for the team's second matchup.
