HENDERSON, Tenn. – The Freed-Hardeman University men's basketball team (15-7, 12-5 AMC) defeated Williams Baptist (9-12, 8-9 AMC) 84-77 on Saturday to complete the regular season sweep over the Eagles.
To start the game, the Lions offense came out firing on all cylinders, as they hopped out to a 22-9 lead early in the half. Williams Baptist would adjust and make it a game, but the Lions offense was swift and steady, taking a 44-32 lead heading into the break.
In the second half, the Lions offense came out strong, but the Eagles would apply full-court pressure on the Lions and put together a 10-0 run to tie the game with eight minutes remaining in regulation. The Lions would maintain their composure and notch a 6-0 run to gain a little bit of breathing room before Williams Baptist would go on a run to take a one-point lead.
The teams would trade baskets as Williams Baptist would regain a one-point lead one more time in the contest before a late-game run by the Lions ultimately grounded the Eagles. A huge three-pointer from Kortland Martin and two big floaters from Konstantin Dotsenko secured the win for the Lions.
Martin would lead the Lions in scoring with 26 points, along with Bryan Battle who had 20 points and six assists. Dotsenko would round out the double-figure scorers with 19 points and 14 rebounds for a double-double.
With the win, the Lions remain a half-game back of second-place Park University with five games remaining in the regular season. The Lions will be back in action on Tuesday on the road against Lyon College. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
