Box Score HENDERSON, Tenn. – The Lady Lions (8-16, 1-12 MSC) earned a sweep (25-22, 25-22, 25-18) over Central Baptist (10-9, 3-1 AMC) in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Lions got off to strong starts in the first two sets, leading 6-2 early in the first and jumping out to a quick 3-0 lead in the second. But the Mustangs wouldn't go away, battling back in both and taking leads mid-way through the sets.
In the first set, they were able to re-take the lead after going on a 7-1 lead late to take a 23-21 lead, followed by an 8-2 run in the second set to go up 16-13. The Mustangs were able to tie the set on three occasions late in the second set, but the Lady Lions were able to hold them off to take a 2-0 lead.
The third set was a back-and-forth affair, with neither team being able to gain any sort of separation.
With the Mustangs up 16-15, the Lady Lions went on a 10-2 run to earn the sweep.
It was a breakout game for freshman Jayden Watkins, who led the way offensively for the Lady Lions with a career-high 13 kills on a strong 32-percent clip.
Allie Humphry finished with a double-double-recording 31 assists and 16 digs, and Kacey Donegan had nine kills, nine digs and four service aces.
The Lady Lions will go back on the road on Tuesday when they take on No. 21 Lindsey Wilson. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
