HENDERSON, Tenn.– The Lions basketball team (2-1) fell short 83-72 to Florida College (6-0) in a tough battle in front of home crowd on Friday night in the Christian College Classic.
The game started off by both teams scoring a basket before Falcons were able to take a by scoring a 3-point shot and a made free throw. The Lions responded and caught up to 9-9, but from there, Florida College was able to stay focused and separate from the Lions. FHU failed to answer and was never able to catch up. Florida College led as many as 12 points in the first half, closing the half 46-37.
The second half started with Lions guard Wanya King making a shot to close the deficit to seven points. The Lions were able to come as close as 3 points, in the second half of the game, but was never able to overcome the deficit.
Kortland Martin led the Lions with 17 points in the contest. Geraldo Lane had 13, while Zach Baugher and King added 12 each.
The Lions will face off against Faulkner on Saturday to close out their Classic. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
