Box Score HENDERSON, Tenn. – The Lady Lions volleyball team (9-17, 2-13 MSC) knocked off Georgetown College (7-19, 3-12 MSC) on Thursday night, sweeping the Tigers 3-0 (25-22, 25-19, 25-13).
In a back-and-forth first set, the Tigers held the largest lead of the set, leading by as many as five points late. But after leading 18-13, the Lady Lions were able to go on a 7-2 run to tie the set at 20-20 before closing the set on a 5-2 run to go up 1-0.
The Lady Lions took control of the second set quickly, leading 11-5 early on, and leading by as many as 10 points, taking a 22-12 lead. But the Tigers didn't go away easy, going on a 7-1 run to make it 23-19. But the Lady Lions were able to get the final two points to take a 2-0 set lead.
It was all Lady Lions in the third set, quickly going up 9-0 behind the serve of Adleigh Mayes, who was making her first career start at setter for FHU.
The Tigers were never allowed back in the set, and the Lady Lions were able to earn the sweep in a dominating third-set win.
Mayes was stellar in her first career start, totaling 23 assists alongside 13 digs for the double-double.
The Lady Lions were strong defensively with three others totaling double-digit digs alongside Mayes. Kacey Donegan and Bryce Morris each finished with 12, and Emma Cambell came away with 11.
Donegan had 10 kills to complete her double-double, and Claire Walker led the way offensively with 12 kills.
The Lady Lions will close out their regular season on Saturday against Campbellsville during Homecoming. Game time is set for 11 a.m. with the Senior Day ceremony to take place before the match.
