Box Score HENDERSON, Tenn. – The Lady Lions volleyball team (9-18, 2-14 MSC) fell in four sets (23-25, 25-14, 25-27, 25-20) to Campbellsville (22-6, 12-4 MSC) in the regular-season finale on Saturday.
The first set was a back-and-forth affair before the Tigers were able to take a 17-12 lead after going on a 4-2 run midway through the set. After going down 21-15, the Lady Lions made a strong attempt at a comeback, making it 21-19 before Campbellsville took four of the next eight points to go up 1-0.
The Lady Lions put together a strong second set, going up 3-0 early and never reliquishing the lead. Campbellsville was able to tie the set 8-8, but the Lady Lions went on a 6-0 run behind the serve of Kacey Donegan to regain control of the set before tying the contest 1-1 overall.
The Lady Lions were able to lead in the third set by as many as four points midway through, but the Tigers wouldn't go away easy, tying the set at 18-18 and 20-20 after the Lady Lions would take a short lead in both situations.
Campbellsville was able to stick around and score two points to take a 25-24 lead before going on to win the set 27-25 and take a 2-1 lead.
In the fourth set, the Tigers led for the majority of the way, but the Lady Lions refused to let the set get out of reach. After the Lady Lions took a 12-10 lead, Campbellsville came storming back, going on a 7-1 run to go up 17-13. The Lady Lions couldn't find a way to claw their way back, and the Tigers earned the 3-1 win.
It was an excellent outing for Donegan, who finished with 16 digs and 13 kills for the double-double.
Adleigh Mayes had another strong start as the Lady Lions' setter, finishing with 32 assists, and also having a strong day defensively with 21 digs.
Emma Campbell had 27 digs on her senior day, and Claire Walker led the way offensively in her final home game as a Lady Lion with 15 kills.
The Lady Lions will face the University of the Cumberlands in the first round of the Mid-South Conference Tournament in Bowling Green. Game time is set for Thursday at 12:30 p.m.
