Box Score Henderson Tenn. – The Freed-Hardeman Lion basketball team made it look easy Thursday night, as they picked up a convincing 98-68 victory over Fisk University in a non-conference match-up at the Brewer Sports Center.
The Lions (9-3) began the game on a 15-7 run and never looked back. Sophomore guard Ryley McClaran went on a quick 9-2 run of his own with 5:54 left in the first half extending the Lion lead to 19 points. McClaran finished the first half with 21 points, shooting 7 for 8 from the field and a perfect 5 for 5 from behind the arc, giving the Lions a 58-33 edge entering the break.
The Lions kept a comfortable lead throughout the second half. Junior forward Hunter Scurlock crashed the offensive glass early in the half and was rewarded with a few put backs. The Bulldogs (2-12) were never able to cut the halftime deficit closer than 19 at any point during the second half, as the Lions pulled away with a 30-point victory. Every eligible Lion player recorded minutes in the match-up.
McClaran led the Lions with a career-high 25 points on 9 for 11 shooting from the field and a perfect 5 for 5 shooting performance from behind the arc. McClaran eclipsed a previous career high of 16 points from a late November win over Indiana East.
It was an otherwise balanced scoring night for the Lions, as Jon Moore finished his efficient night with a season-high 13 points on 5 for 6 shooting, which included a perfect 3 for 3 from the stripe. Wanya King was the only other Lion player to reach double digits, as he put up 12 points in the win. Fifteen different Lion players recorded points in the match-up.
