Lady Lions Take Down Faulkner 63-53 On The Road

Box Score

MONTGOMERY Ala.- The Freed-Hardeman Lady Lion basketball team relied on hot shooting from Alli Crumpler and Alyssa LeMay Monday evening, as they secured a 63-53 victory over the Eagles on the road in Montgomery, Alabama.

Crumpler and LeMay combined for 27 of FHU's 63 points in the match-up, with Crumpler shooting an impressive 4-for-9 from behind the arc while LeMay went 5-for-8 from the field and 2-for-3 from behind the arc. The victory marks the second win for the Lady Lions (8-3) over Faulkner University (7-7) this season, as they defeated the Eagles 91-77 earlier this season at the Christian College Classic in Henderson.

The Lady Lions came out of the gates firing to open the game on a 10-2 run in the first four minutes of play before their offense began to stall. However, the defensive intensity of FHU kept them in the lead as they held a 14-11 advantage at the end of the first quarter. The offensive struggles continued into the second quarter as the Lady Lions finished the first half shooting just 34 percent from the floor. Aided by a Lemay step-back three point basket at the buzzer and 10 forced turnovers on the opposite end of the floor, the Lady Lions held a slim 28-26 lead at the half.

FHU continued their defensive intensity in the second half and never trailed. The Lady Eagles were held to just 10 points in the third quarter, as the Lady Lions were able to build a 43-36 lead heading into the final frame. Despite Faulkner cutting the lead to three points with 5:28 remaining in the game, the Lady Lions responded with a 12-5 run of their own to secure the 63-53 victory on the road.

LeMay led the Lady Lions on the offensive front with 14 points to go along with 7 rebounds and 3 steals while Crumpler followed close behind with 13 points on a 4-for-9 shooting performance from behind the arc. Chynia Brooks and Reagen Floyd also added to FHU's solid offensive production, as Brooks nearly tallied a double-double with eight points and eight rebounds while Floyd put up eight points and five assists in the victory.

With the win, the Lady Lions move to 8-3 on the season. Faulkner University falls to 7-7 on the season with the loss.

UP NEXT: The Lady Lions are back in action Thursday, December 16, as they host Mid-South Conference opponent Life University for a 6:00 PM match-up at the Brewer Sports Center.
