Lions Fall Short At Tennessee Southern

Box Score

PULASKI, Tenn. – The Freed-Hardeman Lion basketball team came up short Saturday afternoon on the road in Pulaski, Tennessee, as they fell to Tennessee Southern by a final tally of 73-62.

The Lions (9-4, 5-2 MSC) shot 48 percent from the field and 44 percent from behind the arc in the first half while using their defensive intensity to force 10 turnovers. However, despite the good shooting numbers, the Lions went into the break trailing the Firehawks 36-33.

The second half was a different story for the Lions, as their offense stalled late in the frame. However, Kortland Martin kept things close late in the game, as he nailed a 3-point field goal with 5:51 remaining to give FHU a 60-59 lead. The Lions; however, finished the game with only 62 points as the Firehawks (10-3, 5-1 MSC) finished the game on a 14-2 run to secure the 73-62 victory.

Martin led the way for the Lions with 18 points, shooting 6 for 13 from the field and 5 for 9 from behind the arc. Hunter Scurlock followed close behind with 17 points of his own and was the only other Lion player to reach double digits in the match-up.

The Lions fall to 9-4 on the season and 4-2 in Mid-South Conference play with the loss. The loss also moves the Lions out of a tie for first place in the Mid-South Conference and into a tie for second place. The Firehawks move to 5-1 in conference play, putting them in a tie for first in the Mid-South Conference.

UP NEXT: The Lions will take a two-week break for the holidays and host Mid-South Conference opponent Bethel on Monday, January 3rd. Tip-off is set for 8:00 PM at the Brewer Sports Center.
