Lions roll over Bethel to advance in MSC Tournament

HENDERSON, Tenn. – The Freed-Hardeman University men's basketball team (16-8,10-7 MSC) defeated in-state rival Bethel University (9-12, 3-11 MSC) 100-66 on Tuesday night to advance in the Mid-South Conference Tournament quarterfinals.

The Wildcats would strike first and lead 11-6 before the Lions would wake up and notch a 14-0 run to lead 20-11 and never look back. The team would continue their strong offensive play and get defensive stops and lead 46-35 at halftime.

In the second half, the team picked up right where they left off and continued to roll offensively. The team would stretch their lead to 26 points midway through the second half, as the Wildcats had no answer for the Lion offense. The team would continue the onslaught and cruise to a 34-point victory.

The Lions were led in scoring by Wanya King, who poured in 26 points on 9-of-13 shooting from the field and 4-of-7 shooting from beyond-the-arc.

John Musselwhite added 16 points in his final game at the Brewer Sports Center on 5-of-9 shooting from the field, and Kortland Martin added 11 points and seven assists in the win.

Ryley McClaran rounded out the Lion double-digits scorers with 10 points.

With the win, the Lions will continue MSC Tournament play in Bowling Green, Kentucky. The team is scheduled to match-up with No. 3 seeded Thomas More on Sunday. The two teams split the regular season series at one game apiece, with the Lions winning the most recent matchup on February 13 73-68. Tip-off ss scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
