Lady Lions volleyball drops MSC opener

HENDERSON, Tenn. – The Freed-Hardeman University volleyball team (10-5, 0-1 MSC) dropped its Mid-South Conference debut matchup with Life University (15-3, 2-1 MSC) in five sets (25-21,25-19,16-25,11-25,10-15) on Thursday night.

The Lady Lions started out clicking on all cylinders as the team had the momentum early on. The team would battle and take a 1-0 set lead after the first set.

The Lady Lions continued rolling in the second set,and led by as many as 10 points at 19-9 as the team cruised to a 2-0 set lead.

The Running Eagles began to shift the momentum at end the second set as the team notched on a 10-6 run to end the set. The team would continue their run in the third set, as the Lady Lions had no answer for the Life attack. The Running Eagles would get on the board, taking the third set.

The Running Eagles would continue their attack into the fourth set, as the Lady Lions could not get the necessary stops, and Life would go on to tie the match at two sets apiece.

In the decisive fifth set, Life would again continue their aggressive attack and complete the comeback for the win.

Emma Self dished out 27 assists and eight digs in the loss, along with Allie Humphry dealing 24 assists of her own. Reilly Fulton had 22 digs to anchor the team defensively, and Kacey Donegan had 15 kills and 11 digs to complete the double-double.

The Lady Lions are scheduled to travel to in-state rival Martin Methodist on Saturday. Gametime is set for 2 p.m.
